Reflecting

http://www.flickr.com/photos/perspective/18057298/sizes/m/in/photostream/
In my last blog I will be reflecting back on many aspects that I have talked about in the past. I will explain what I learned about Tim Howard, the difficulties in blogging, and the rewards that came out of blogging.

First I would like to talk about what I have learned. I have learned many things about Tim Howard along the way, like how old he is, how many kids he has, but also I learned more about his strengths and weaknesses as a person. He is mentally and physically a very strong keeper. Tourettes was also a big thing that I learned about. Going into creating a blog about him I had no knowledge of him having tourettes. He is an amazing person because he has struggled with tourettes all his life, but he over comes it and can control it while playing a sport.

The difficulties in blogging were few, but the hardest one was to learn how to use the blogging website on the iPad and learning how to post everything. Using all of the citations and links that needed to be included. All around it was just a learning experience for me. Also the pictures were a hard aspect in posting, because I had to find a picture that I could use without plagiarizing and put it in my post so that was not that hard, but then when you would post the blog the picture would be gone. So I had to figure out how to post the picture so when it went onto my blog it would show up. Besides the difficulties there were many rewards.

I know have the knowledge about Tim Howard, I thought that it was really cool to learn about many of his records and accomplishments that he has achieved so far in his career. This motivates me to be a better keeper than I am now. Also another reward was learning how to blog. Coming into this blogging project I had no clue what I was doing or going to do. Over time though i learned a lot about blogging, this will help me in the future if i ever need to blog for a college or even still a high school project.

As you can see if you create your own blog and put your own time and effort into posting new information, you learn a lot about the subject you are blogging about and also you learn a lot about blogging.

Tim's accomplishments

This post explains five of Tim Howard's accomplishments not just in his soccer career but at home as well.

OVERCOMING TOURETTES
Tim has not overcome being one of the best goalkeepers but he has overcome tourettes syndrome, diagnosed at age 10 feeling secluded from everyone around him. A kid who loved sports and realized his symptoms were better as he played sports. AOL News says " Every major success he had, every step he made with athletics, you can see his self esteem grow and that probably helped him deal with tourettes.

THE GOLDEN GLOVE
Howard was awarded the golden glove in the 2009 confederation cup, for being the most outstanding goal keeper, the golden glove is a very high honor. It is giving to the keeper with the best keeper in the tournament. Tis is decided by the FIFA committee

SCORING FROM FULL FIELD
Scoring from goal to goal is not easy, but tim scored against Bolton, but because of Tim's sportsmanship and respect. He did not celebrate is rare goal. " It is not a nice place to be" Howard said " I've been there before- a long, long time ago- and that was why i didn't celebrate"

FAMILY IS IMPORTANT
Tim has a wife and 2 kids, a boy and a girl. This is a very important part of his life and a very big accomplishment because being able to manage a professional sport is hard enough. He loves his family though so he finds time to spend time with his family whenever he is not playing or training. " I have my daughters name tattooed on my ribs, my sons on my chest."

THE RECORD
Tim has played for Everton for six seasons and the record he holds is for playing with a single club team. He has played with them for 184 consecutive games. Most keepers stay on a team for only a few seasons.

Howard or cech?

Tim Howard and Petr Cech are both very athletic and outstanding goalkeepers. The talk is which one is a better keeper. In this post i will talk about strengths and weaknesses of both keepers. So then you can decide who is better. This is all presented by espn FC.

Tim Howard is a goalkeeper from New Jersey, slowly worked his way to being on of the top goalkeepers. He was spotted by many different teams, but started out playing for Manchester United. Where he played for many years until he was spotted by Everton, who took him to their team where he is doing very well. He also played for United States in the World Cup. I said i was going to talk about cech as well.

Petr cech is one of the most respected goal keepers, because he has been around a long time and proved his worth. He got spotted by chealsea in 2004. Cech had a career threatening collison though, this collision  when comming out for a ball in his box, he ended up with a fractured skull and was out for 3 months. This affected his game of comming out for aerial balls, but tim and petr do have some similarities.

Both keepers are very stong and intelligent. They both grasp the game of soccer very well. What they do is very hard, with the block percentage that they both have. Brad Friedel states " for a goalkeeper, the is no hiding place" and this is very true. Tou dont see a keeper backing doen and cowering from a ball that comes in his box. It is their job to keep it out and thats exactly what they will do.

Though they have many things alike they also have different aspects. Tim is 6'3", 210 lbs and is a very solid keeper, he is 33 years old. His type of play style is very clinical and intelligent. He uses his strength, athleticism, intensity, and bravery to block all of the shots that he does. Though like everyone he has his weaknesses, which are in his case his positioning can be a little off on crosses or corners. " Becomming one of the most consistent jeepers in the league, his form over the follwing season. Kept everton in the hunt for european convention."

On the other hand Petr Cech is a very agile athlete as well as commanding. This helps him stop the balls when he needs to as well as control his defensive line. He is 6'5", 185lbs and is 30 years old. His weaknesses are the same as Tim's, his positioning can be off on crosses and corners. " I believe Petr Cech is one of the most important players for his team, one of the best goalkeepers in the world."

As you can see both goalkeepers are. Very talented players, but i believe that Tim Howard has a much better potential than Petr Cech.

The history of soccer in the olympics

http://www.flickr.com/photos/onetreehillstudios/3471144225/sizes/m/in/photostream/

Soccer has been in the Olympics for quite a long time, but the first time it entered was in 1908 in the London games. There were 4 teams that were invited to participate in the first games. That was only the mens, but i bet some of the women wanted to play as well, so the women were able to play in the official program in 1996.

In between this gap of time there was a man named  Henri Delaunay that made a proposal to initiate a professional world cup championship of football. Which was passed and that is how the world cup came to be. Why would people want to train for the World Cup and Olympics? Im sure that it was a controversy. So they made it possible for many people to play, where the people in the World Cup could not play in the Olympics games.

The United states has been in many of the FIFA Cups, FIFA stands for International Federation
of Association Football. The rules of the game have been developed since it has started. The size for example, the size of a soccer field has to be between 100m- 110m long and 64m- 75m wide.

There is also a point on the field called the penalty spot which is 11m from the mouth of the goal. The point of the game is to score more goals than the opposing team. The team with the most goals at the end of the game wins the game. If you would like to find more information on the history of soccer I very highly recommend worldsoccer.com

Pregame warmup with Tim

Ussoccer presents tim howards warmup.
Howard starts off  by doing some of his stretches and light warmup jogs just to break a sweat befoe he hits the field. When he gets on the field he will do some quick sprints and jog it off. Then comes the best part Doing the hnadling of the ball, left dives, right dives, up and down, volleys, shots from near and far and crosses. Then he finishes with some Kicking.
http://www.ussoccer.com/news/mens-national-team/2011/08/qa-tim-howard.aspx

It is always good to be streched out and warmed up before an athletic event. Heres the how to dynamic stretching and warming up before a soccer match as a goalkeeper.

First you should start out with just a light easy jog for about 5-10 min max

Second you start with highknees, buttkicks, knee hugs, lunges, carioca
- remember you should be walking while you do these.

Third You can hit the field. Start with just bouncing the ball around and catching it, hit the ball off your foot and get to it as quickly as possible.

Fourth you can start with having a shooter kick aome near shots for reaction time warmup and far shots for positioning. Then you can move onto crosses and working on comming out. But if the ball is to far you can work on saving volleys.

That as a guide to a quick and easy way to warmup before a soccer match.

Tim getting old?

http://www.flickr.com/photos/giveawayboy/4694641631/sizes/m/in/photostream/

Howard, evertons goalkeeper has had a solid start to the english premier league season. Everton has leaped into fourth place. Howard who is now 33 years of age playing in his tenth premier league season. He is said to have the third greatest career of a U.S. goalkeeper in England. Tim has had 192 consecutive league starts in his entire career. Sports illustrated presnets.

"The way you get Champions League football is by playing really well over the course of 38 games. Some teams can play well and they're just not as talented, and they're not going to make the top four. So far we've shown we have the talent and can punch above our weight. Now it's just a matter of sustaining this. When Christmas time comes and the games come back-to-back-to-back, as tough as it is, it's also a great opportunity to pick up a lot of points."

Even though tim howard is a fantastic goalkeeper there is always room for improvement, but with age it also gets harder as well. Tim does not have to work on his very fine tuning but now he has to work on maintaining his physical  attributes and staying mentally sharp as well. I believe that Tim has a very great potential in the part of his career to get to the top of the goalkeeper rankings. Sports illustrated presents.

"I needed to learn a lot of things and get better in every way. I think I've done that. I've gotten to the point where I've virtually mastered the position. Now that has different levels, depending on your talent. But I've become the goalkeeper I wanted to become. Hopefully I'll continue getting better, but it's going to be in small increments. The hard part is to maintain my physical attributes, keep fit and stay mentally sharp so I can be at my best."
